Key Stage 1 & 2:Â
Pupils aged 5 – 11 yearsÂ
Years 1 – 6
We do not believe that children are inert vessels into which learning is poured. All human beings bring to new learning the full wealth of their previous experience. All learn in different ways, with a different slant on what they learn. Our skilled teachers assist children in assimilating new learning; direct instruction is often key to that; so are collaborative, exploratory and investigative approaches. For most of their time, children continue to be taught as a class, by the class teachers, in classes of no more than 22 children.
However, there are specialist teachers for Music, Art, Drama, Languages, Arabic, Islamic Studies, English as an Additional Language, Physical Education and Computer Studies. Children are encouraged to read regularly and widely. They develop confidence by performing on a regular basis to a variety of audiences.Â
